About Chambersburg Country Club

The Chambersburg Golf Club was incorporated on June 12, 1921 and featured a six hole course in the rolling hills near the village of Scotland, adjacent to the Steinberger apple orchard. It boasted 41 charter members including President C.O. Wood, Vice President John K. Gordon,
Secretary David H. Riddle and Treasurer W. H. Fisher. Membership increased rapidly and three additional holes were added in 1924 and the first pro, Tommy Donnachie, was hired. He was succeeded in 1927 by Arthur Edgar who remained in the position for 40 years.

The nine-hole course was redesigned and a swimming pool was installed in 1956. The pool was replaced and relocated to its present location in 1975. In 1977, tennis facilities, four courts and a pro shop were added and the club became the Chambersburg Golf and Tennis Club. The name was changed to the Chambersburg Country Club in 1981.

With the acquisition of additional land from the Scot-Green Corporation, a major expansion of the golf course began in 1975. Nine additional holes were designed by Edmund B. Ault, and constructed by Fayetteville Contractors Inc. under the direction of Course Superintendent Byron Horst. The redesigned championship 18 hole layout opened June 9, 1976 with new holes 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 15 complimenting the old course. In 1998 the current configuration was adopted with new greens for 3, 4, 17 and 18 and a new elevated tee for 17. Changing 16 from a par 5 to a par 4 brought the course from a par 74 to a par 73.

The first clubhouse, built in 1925, was destroyed by fire in 1945. The second was finished in 1947 and was replaced by the current structure built in 1999. Within the Clubhouse is the Grand Ballroom, a room able to accommodate parties of all sizes and for all occasions.
