Tacoma

Tacoma Country & Golf Club hosted the Washington State Open in 1932 and again in 1997. The club was the site of the prestigious 1961 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1984 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur and the 1994 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championships. We hosted the 2007 U.S.G.A. Junior Girls’ Championship. The golf professionals at Tacoma Country & Golf Club enjoy unmatched success at the Washington State Open. The late Chuck Congdon, head pro at TC&GC for 30 years, is the only five-time winner of the event. Former club pro Al Mengert is the only "three-peat" winner of the Washington State Open. James Barnes was head pro from 1910-1915. He won the PGA twice in 1916 and 1919; the U.S. Open in 1921 and the British Open in 1925. The success of Tacoma Country & Golf Club professionals continues.
